Flow State

There are moments in life when everything seems to move without effort. Breath and body follow their own rhythm. The mind softens, and something beyond intention seems to guide the experience.

This is being in Flow State, what psychologist
Mihály Csíkszentmihályi (love this name!) called
“the state of optimal experience.”

I have long been inspired by his work. I have read his books, explored his ideas, and shared deeper studies and discussions on the topic of “Flow State” in yoga workshops on creativity and presence.

Flow appears in many forms. For me, it’s through movement, music, creating art, or being out in nature fully experiencing the elements without attachment or aversion appreciating whatever comes like savouring a new flavour or bathing in a wind washed temperature change. In this full presence without gripping, awareness deepens and the space between interpretation and expression unfolds naturally. It’s here that new inspiration arises without conscious control.

Flow State often appears when the mind relaxes. And while it's not always optimal to be in a state of non-attachment, the best we can do is notice what creates less suffering and do that.

Recently, I heard a very gifted teacher say,
Do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.
Thank you. That simple advice feels perfectly aligned with the way flow teaches us to move through life noticing what nourishes and letting go of what doesn’t.

It is here that awareness deepens, allowing creativity and presence to arise. Whether practicing, listening, creating, or simply being, we become immersed in what we are doing, and the experience feels alive from within.

Flow state is a glimpse of yoga in motion, where awareness and action unite effortlessly. It shows how presence, attention, and surrender can transform ordinary moments into something full and radiant.
